War No More

There’s gunfire in the mountains
The black smoke fills the air
Death’s the only game in town
No hope, only despair
Fighting for a reason
That was lost along the way
Protesting is treason
Darkness rules the day
Rulers choose the battles
Never thinking twice
Pawns are cannon fodder
Their lives a sacrifice
For leaders without conscience
Who fill an endless need
For the power that consumes them
And a never ending greed
Children never growing up
When will this madness cease
They were born into this garden
To live in love and peace
And yet, somehow we turn away
From this holocaust at hand
As the tyrants kill the hope that was
The birthright of this land
Forsaking what we might have been
So afraid of what’s in store
Wondering if we’ll ever be
A world of war no more
