Happy Birthday U.S.A.

Happy birthday U.S.A.
It’s time to face the truth
Some ideals have been forgotten
That mattered in your youth
Your tired and your hungry
Aren’t important anymore
The rich keep getting richer
With no thought for the poor
Freedom of religion
Should mean freedom from it too
One nation under God
Is just some people’s point of view
All men created equal
Has been lost without a doubt
That dream is off the market
Walls are built to keep “them” out
Liberties are sacrificed
Rights are treated wrong
The land of opportunity
Is only for the strong
Wars are fought for profit
And leaders don’t think twice
As we give our sons and daughters
As a pointless sacrifice
But still we pause to wave the flag
Which stood for something grand
Before these soulless bastards
Raped the dream our fathers planned
Where is the land they dreamed of
Where its people mattered most
Where liberty and justice
Was the rule from coast to coast
We must take back the power
If the dream is to survive
And fight like those before us
Just to keep that hope alive

Lay Our Weapons Down

Meet me near the border
Where the water meets the sand
Where we once were as children
Walking hand in hand
Bury all the differences
That tore our world apart
Look into these weary eyes
See into my heart
Calculate the price we’ve paid
All the ones we lost
Nothing’s worth the shattered lives
Nothing’s worth the cost
The cause was lost along the way
The truth was never found
So let’s gather by the water
And lay our weapons down

Reckless crimes of passion
Soldiers of some cross
Sacrificial innocents
Crippled from the loss
Children in a war zone
Growing up too fast
Sins of unknown fathers
Tie them to some past
Sisters bury brothers
Mothers bury sons
Blood is spilled for nothing
By little boys with guns
When it’s time to lay the blame
The leaders can’t be found
So, meet me by the water
And we’ll lay our weapons down

War No More

There’s gunfire in the mountains
The black smoke fills the air
Death’s the only game in town
No hope, only despair
Fighting for a reason
That was lost along the way
Protesting is treason
Darkness rules the day
Rulers choose the battles
Never thinking twice
Pawns are cannon fodder
Their lives a sacrifice
For leaders without conscience
Who fill an endless need
For the power that consumes them
And a never ending greed
Children never growing up
When will this madness cease
They were born into this garden
To live in love and peace
And yet, somehow we turn away
From this holocaust at hand
As the tyrants kill the hope that was
The birthright of this land
Forsaking what we might have been
So afraid of what’s in store
Wondering if we’ll ever be
A world of war no more

Mortal Sin

A penny for your thoughts
A dollar for your soul
They put a price on freedom
And the paupers pay the toll
They nickel and they dime you
And tax your every breath
They charge you for just living
And profit from your death
The rich are getting richer
No one else is getting by
But the ignorant in masses
Give their vote and don’t ask why
Stupid is as stupid votes
Give them everything, you fools
Cheer them as they rape your future
Let them live by their own rules
You see greed without compassion
Is the Devil’s darkest game
If you don’t speak out against it
You’re the sinner who’s to blame

Death Of The Catcher

I remember when I met you
You were acting out the scenes
Of characters in movies
Like most kids in their teens
We were filled with foolish notions
And the angst that burned inside
We were driven to excesses
When we found no place to hide
We shared our darkest secrets
Blood brothers ‘til the end
Until the pain consumed you
And I lost my closest friend
I thought that I could save you
In the end, no one’s that strong
When you believe that life’s a hard way
Like the words in that last song
But life goes on and so did I
Time heals wounds, this is true
And I buried those old feelings
Just the way they buried you
And most days I don’t feel the pain
I never feel alone
Until I heard the news today
That Holden Caulfield’s gone

Rapture

We are sitting on this front porch
Just looking to the sky
We get to be with Jesus
And we never have to die
And all these other losers
Living in this trailer park
Will be left here in this squalor
Lost sinners in the dark
The National Enquirer
In the checkout line today
Told me He was coming back
And there’d be Hell to pay
So, all you smartass liberal types
Who think you’re so high class
Can look up as my soul ascends
And kiss my raptured ass

A Plea For Progress

Let’s not take our country back
Move forward, if you please
It makes me wonder back to what
Each time I hear those pleas
Back to segregation
In our lives and in our schools
Or maybe back to slavery
Please clarify, you fools
Back to the old plantations
Where everything was right
And life was just a banquet
If you were male or white
Back when women could not vote
And stood behind their man
And men ruled with an iron fist
Is that part of your plan
We’re supposed to be evolving
Yet you want us to go back
But progress must move forward
To keep us all on track
So, open up your minds
And let the wind blow out the dust
Remember tools that you don’t use
Will always turn to rust
Don’t just stand there looking stupid
Use your head. Pick up the pace
Come with us to the promised land
And join the human race

Eden

Lay down your weapons
Lift up your eyes
Ground all the warplanes
Filling the skies
Silence the gunfire
Let fighting cease
Leave for our children
A world that knows peace
Stop all the hatred
Eradicate war
Fight only suffering
Care for the poor
Chase out the tyrants
The fools on the hill
Remove all the generals
And leaders who kill
Focus on hunger
And fill every need
Share all the wealth
Stockpiled from greed
Set aside anger
Each sister and brother
Return to the garden
And love one another

Dr. Seuss' Chick-Fil-A

I will not eat at Chick-Fil-A
Even though I am not gay
I will not put it in my mouth
Although I am from the deep south
I will not touch a bun or pickle
If you beg or plead or punch or tickle
I will not eat a bigot's food
You cannot get me in the mood
I will not eat it if it's free
I cannot swallow bigotry
I will not touch a waffle fry
I'd rather do without and die
I'll never decorate my plate
In places they discriminate
I'd rather take a massive lickin'
Than try to choke down biased chicken
So, listen cretins.  Hear my voice
I'm done with you. NOW, THAT'S A CHOICE
