Jesus Was A Socialist

The modern Christian church and the conservative right has lost sight of the foundations of their faith as set forth by the words of Jesus. Compassion has been replaced by self-righteousness and the belief that faith will bring wealth and success. I can’t find any scripture to support this belief, but I can find plenty to dispute it:

“For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in”

Matthew 25:35

The Sermon on the Mount (The Beatitudes)

Matthew 5 (As Kurt Vonnegut noted "not exactly planks of the republican party platform".)

Matthew 5:1 When 1 he saw the crowds, he went up the mountain.  After he sat down his disciples came to him.
5:2 Then  he began to teach them by saying:
5:3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to them.
5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
5:5 “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.
5:7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
5:9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God.
5:10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to them.
5:11 “Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you and say all kinds of evil things about you falsely  on account of me.
5:12 Rejoice and be glad because your reward is great in heaven, for they persecuted the prophets before you in the same way.

Matthew 22:34 Now when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees they assembled together.
22:35 And one of them, an expert in religious law, asked him a question to test  him:
22:36 “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?”
22:37 Jesus  said to him, “‘Love  the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.
22:38 This is the first and greatest commandment.
22:39 The second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.
22:40 All the law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”

Do you practice what he preached, or are you just talking the talk?
