Twilight

Sixty-nine and I'm still counting

As the years go screaming by

Marked by joys and scarred by losses

So we live and so we die

With the bigger part behind me

Hope the best is yet to come

Never sure where I am going

Or forgetting where I'm from

Kindness was my birthright

Mama's love showed me the way

My best friend and example

She's still with me every day

Seems I'm always starting over

Once again, I'm on my own

But the love that I've been given

Means I'll never be alone

So, come and walk beside me

Before my life's light fades away

And share some love and laughter

While we have the time to play

Tapestry

We are all imperfect people

In a world that’s grown so cold

Searching for something that’s perfect

None the wiser, growing old

Mama said my life’s a tapestry

Every chapter is a thread

Woven stories I have written

From the memories in my head

Lovers lost and souls departed

Was the venture worth the gain

Was the price too much to cover

Was the profit worth the pain

Fragile hearts are always broken

Careless whispers leave a scar

That pain is inescapable

No matter who you are

The middle of my tapestry

Returns to mark the end

With one who stood the test of time

My love and my best friend

She is perfectly imperfect

But she's perfect for this heart

Woven in this tapestry

My favorite work of art

Quench me

It's been a long, hot summer

That's parched my mouth and soul

A season void of comfort

Or rains to make me whole

This heart feels like a desert

Abandoned in a drought

Seems there are no clouds in sight

No way to chase these doubts

Bad luck and worse decisions

Have led me to this place

No tender kiss to help return

A smile to this man's face

At times like this, I wonder

Have I not yet seen the worst

Or will I look into the eyes

Of one who'll quench my thirst
