Lessons Learned

I've been holding onto memories

Too blind to see the past

Rose colored glasses

See dreams not meant to last

We hide from our own failures

We hide our hearts from pain

Knowing somewhere deep inside

We can't go back again

The good times shine much brighter

Than the anger and the tears

Forgetting what tore us apart

Softened through the years

You learn from your mistakes

Or repeat them one by one

Scars that never seem to fade

Until your time is done

So, let me put these walls up

To protect this fragile heart

And hide it from the dangers

That tore my world apart
