One More Time

One more time to see your face
To hear your laughter fill this space
One more chance to hear your voice
To try to change that fateful choice
A few more words to let you know
How all my life I loved you so
One more night to wonder why
The last time was our last goodbye

Trumpty Dumpty

Trumpty Dumpty wanted a wall
Saying it was the best thing for us all
A thinly veiled ruse to cover his plan
To make rich folks richer as fast as he can
Trumpty Dumpty, the combover kid
A con man who lied about all that he did
He scorns all our allies, makes friends with our foes
Arrogantly lying where ever he goes
Ignoring subpoenas for crime after crime
Believing a leader could never do time
Paying off porn stars and hiding his taxes
While secretly building his own evil axis
But election day's coming and bringing its tolls
The guilty will pay if we all pack the polls
I hope that his sentence ranks up with the worst
Unless Nancy Pelosi impeaches him first
Trumpty Dumpty, your time is at hand
To pay for the damage you've done to our land
And history will tell of your treasonous crimes
Recording the truth of these difficult times
For no one is bigger than the people, you see
No room for tyrants in the land of the free

For Philip

Sweet little boy with those yellow-green eyes
Blonde hair and that cute dimpled chin
I've got a half-century of memories to share
But I'm not sure just where to begin
I didn't know what I was missing
Until I laid eyes on your face
Part son and part brother, a part of my soul
That nothing can ever replace
So, I'm looking for rhymes with some reasons
Not sure where to start or to end
Love never dies, but I know in this life
That I'll never see you again
All around me the world doesn't notice
That everything's been rearranged
But they can't see the pain or the hole in my heart
That my world is forever changed

Babel

Things have never been better
Things have never been worse
In the land of the blessed
Being led by the cursed
Put your faith in yourself
And your trust in a few
Keep looking for light
And you'll find what is true
So many false idols
And fools on the hill
Driven by greed
And their own need to kill
Our ancestor's dreams
Where people live free
They're trading them in
For the profits they see
In ivory towers
Surrounded by gold
Selling their souls
As their bodies grow old
I will stand by their graves
On the day that they die
And nobody will mourn
Nobody will cry

Metamorphosis

I was just a wanderer
A soul who'd lost his way
She was just a ray of light
That brightened every day
Wasn't looking for a lover
So afraid to make a friend
Afraid of starting over
Afraid to lose again
She gave me hours of her time
I shared with her my soul
Her smile healed all the pain inside
Her kindness made me whole
The more we met, the more I loved
The further my heart fell
Afraid that I might scare her
If my feelings I did tell
But over time I wore her down
She saw my heart was true
And realized no other love
Could love her as I do
So now my heart belongs to her
My love, my soul, my life
She is my world, my everything
My best friend and my wife.

The Road, Part Two

This road has led me places
I might wish I could forget
A million miles and sleepless nights
That left my pillow wet
Broken bones and broken hearts
Wrong turns along the way
Regrets and disappointments
That haunt me till today
But every time I stumbled
And each time I got burned
Was one more chapter in the book
Another lesson learned
A fool in foolish company
With nothing much to gain
Trying to find remedies
To somehow ease the pain
But then I came full circle
To a place lost in my past
And found what I’d been searching for
A love I know will last
 I’ll never walk alone again
 Beneath that heavy load
And I will treasure every step
Beside her on the road

Gratitude

Not a day goes by that I don't think
How much my life has changed
My clouds replaced by rainbows
My heart's been rearranged
The darkness I had known so long
Has given way to light
Your sweet love brightens every day
And comforts me at night
I'm not sure what you love in me
But grateful that you do
Your heart is like no other
And my heart belongs to you
If we make it to a hundred
The time would not allow
To repay all you have given me
But this I promise now
To love you like no other
Beside you every mile
To try to keep you happy
And always make you smile
The way each time you look at me
That takes my breath away
A love that fills my heart with joy
And strengthens me each day
