I’m grateful for the lessons

I’ve learned along the way

And grateful for the things I lost

That were never meant to stay

So lucky for the love I’ve known

My family and friends

That somehow kept me grounded

In a life of changing winds

I’m grateful for the artists

For every single word

For every book that changed me

And all your songs I heard

Life isn’t always easy

I’ve shed my share of tears

I’ve done a lot of living

In sixty-nine short years

For all my friends who left too soon

And loved ones I have lost

The joy that you have given me

Was worth the final cost

Because love lives on forever

And cannot fade away
